Before 1972 AD, it used to be a part of Muzaffarpur, but then Later it was separated from Muzaffarpur on December 11, 1972 AD and a new district were formed, The name of that district was Sitamarhi and the name of the river flowing here is Jhim river which passes through the border of India and Nepal.
